What is the VISA Check Card?

An Affinia Federal Credit Union VISA Check Card (also referred to as "the Card" or "debit card") combines the capabilities of a standard Credit Union ATM card with the ability to shop, dine or use services wherever VISA is accepted.

What's the difference between the Credit Union ATM card and the new Credit Union VISA Check Card?

A standard Credit Union ATM card, featuring the STAR logo prominently on the front of the card, allows you to access ATMs and make purchases (using your PIN) at any STAR, PULSE, PLUS, or other affiliated terminal.

The new VISA Check Card (featuring the VISA name and logo on the front) does everything your standard Credit Union ATM card does, plus it allows you to shop or dine or use services most places that VISA is accepted. For example, if you go to dinner and use your VISA Check Card, you will simply sign the bill and your transaction is authorized to be deducted from your primary checking account.

Can I get cash back from merchants when shopping with my VISA Check Card?

Yes, some merchants will allow you to authorize more than the cost of goods or services and receive the difference in cash when you use your VISA Check Card. By getting additional cash back at these merchants, you can often avoid the costly surcharges assessed at some ATM terminals.

How is the VISA Check Card different from a credit card?

With a credit card, you are charging your purchases and you can either pay the amount due in full each month or repay over time, incurring interest charges.

With a Credit Union VISA Check Card, you are using your own money to make purchases. Each purchase is deducted from your Credit Union checking account automatically after the transaction is completed and processed. Be sure to note in your account register the amount of each purchase made with the Card, just as you would if you were writing a check, because funds used to authorize a Card purchase will be unavailable for check clearing or withdrawal. Each Card transaction will appear on your Credit Union checking statement.

What if I forget my PIN?

Please contact the Credit Union via fax, letter or e-mail to request a new PIN. You will receive the new PIN at your home address approximately 5-7 business days after we receive your request.

What do I do if my Card is lost or stolen?

Notify us AT ONCE if your card is lost or stolen. During regular business hours contact the Credit Union at (937) 485-0160. After business hours or on the weekend call 1-800-523-4175. There is a $5.00 fee to replace a lost or stolen card.

To apply for a Credit Union Visa Check Card, fill out and print the application. Return completed application to the credit union via interoffice or postal mail. Members must have a checking account to utilize this product.
